Curriculum
We work alongside each young person’s school to ensure continuity in his/her education. The pupils remain on the roll of the school, and it takes the lead role in the assessment process.
We have teaching staff and are able to support curriculum subjects at An Cala—literacy and numeracy is a priority in education and we support any pupils who have difficulty in these areas.
Health and Wellbeing
We provide Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) in many forms, and this is wholly structured around the needs of the young person. We believe that young people will become more effective members of society and confident individuals if these needs are met.
1-1
Every young person at An Cala will have a 1-1 session with their key Children’s Services Worker, who will discuss individual strengths and pressures, and work with young people and their family to try to achieve their goals and promote emotional literacy.
Group Work
We encourage young people to work together through providing group sessions and trips. Each day, we meet after break to take part in a themed daily forum session. These include emotional literacy check-ins, daily news item, exploring interesting objects, team games and young peoples’ own forum. We also have a weekly social skills group, where all staff and young people participate in different activites.
Outdoor Learning
We encourage young people to take part in outdoor learning as we believe that this is an essential part of our toolkit for encouraging teamwork , confidence, assertiveness and self-esteem.w
Partnership Working
We work in partnership with parents and carers, schools and organisations, such as Skills Development Scotland, High Life Highland, Room 13, Eden Court, musicians, employers and West Highland College (UHI), to plan successful learning for each young person.
